Milk
Alison is baking a big cake for tomorrow, but this picture is merely here to proof to a Dutch friend of mine that we still have, and use, plastic milk bags around here. In the Netherlands they discarded those in the 70’s.

What do they use instead, cartons like we also have? I wonder what is “best”. I buy bags because the Kid drinks so much milk, and we rinse them and recycle them after. Cartons can be recycled too, of course, but I wonder if it’s not very energy-intensive since they are waxed cardboard… (and now with a plastic spout)?

In the Netherlands (don’t know about other European countries) they use cartons with a fold out spout in ?, 1 and 1? litres. They aren’t recycled.
The nice thing is that you can also buy yoghurt in those cartons and it’s half the price per liter than the plastic containers they sell here that have only hold 750 ml. That’s why I make my own yoghurt (link to post in Dutch).
Organic milk is sold in 1 litre bottles that are reused.

A flash from the past indeed. Here in NL they (we) use cartons, but also there are reusable polycarbonate bottles. I’m afraid people like cartons better though, those bottles are now on the lowest shelf in the shop.
