Pool party, with a lot of children. These are the children of Alison’s sister boyfriend. And Alison’s father, who also couldn’t stand the windless heat. Even I went in, with my cast held above the water of course.

(The kids are terrific – I met them for the first time this weekend – and they call my sister “Auntie” and my father “Grampa.” I don’t know whether the latter is cultural (any man old enough to be their grandfather is to be respectfully addressed in this manner) or whether the family merger is being made official.)
