Basket

When I’m surfing the web or reading my email, Poupoune lies in her basket under my desk, lined with sheep skin. If I get up she follows me like a dog.

On this really beautiful day, with a bright blue sky, no wind, and -5 degrees we went to a cross-country ski ‘resort’ in the Laurentians, about 1 hour north of Montréal. I went with my Dutch friend Paul, who, despite that he’s 24 years my senior, is in top condition. And so were the tracks. We skied a whopping 25 kilometer over quite difficult terrain and we passed a lot of people and were not once overtaken by others. I’m proud of myself.

It’s apparently a technique to clean fur coats, and it even involves sawdust…

Resting in te sun during a walk in the snow. We are in a provincial park that is closed in the winter, but we weren’t the only ones that just ignored the ‘Fermée”-signs and went ahead anyway. It was beautiful and even though we had to put Poupoune in her backpack after a while, she enjoyed it just as much as we did.
Early Valentine dinner in restaurant ‘Le fil de Ariane’. Yes, I though about you Marijn…

Yesterday I went to a webloggers (MetaFilter) meeting in Ottawa but it turned out I was a week too early. Stupid me.
But today I made it up by going cross-country skiing with my father in law. We went to Gatineau Park, on the other side of the Ottawa river. It was extremely busy but after we took a backcountry trail, that wasn’t prepared by a machine, and went on narrow paths through the woods, there was almost nobody else. I really enjoyed myself. I like being outside in the snow, in case you hadn’t figured that out already.

Cross-country skiing in the Ruyter Valley, close to the Vermont border about 1.5 hour drive south east of Montréal. Very nice and very quiet; there was hardly anybody else.

My first weekend of Telemark skiing and I loved it! It was hard to un-learn my alpine ski reflexes (even though it’s about 8 years ago since I last did any alpine skiing) but after a day and a half I suddenly got the hang of it.
Did I already say I love it?
(I do have sore muscles though. Umph.)

Mad
Alison is mad at me.
I’m mad at Alison.
She watches television until 4 in the morning, when she finally falls asleep on the couch, guarded by Pepe, I snap this picture. People usually only take pictures on happy moments, but it’s necessary to also log the less happy moments.
BTW, we’re friends again.
