Fire

A big fire, two blocks from here on the busy Avenue Christophe-Coulomb, fills the air with smoke. About 10 appartments are demolished, first by the fire and then by the fire brigade that opened all the walls and floors to extinguish the fire completely. About 25 fire trucks, a lot of police and a tangle of fire hoses coming from fire hydrants a couple of blocks away. Fortunately there where no casualties, but losing your house is not fun. And people are often not insured (we aren’t, although we will when we buy our house) so it sometimes means you have lost everything you own.
The electricity is also interupted, also in our house, so we had to postpone the activity we had planned: getting rid of the bugs in our pantry. While we were away in Europe they multiplied like mad. The whole house was filled with pantry moths…

Moths
Dealing with the infestation of Pantry Moths (Indian Meal Moths) we empty the whole pantry, clean everything with warm soapy water and remove and throw out all food items and packages with traces of bugs, worms or pupas. In total we throw out about three garbage bags of food…
After that we clean the pantry very well and spray insecticide inside it. I’m not a big fan but spraying regularly during 6 weeks (the life cycle of the bugs) is apparently the only way to finally get rid of the critters. They are not that bad actually, and pretty harmless, but if there are so many of them they eat your food before you can.
